Curriculum Enrichment
At Surlingham Primary School, we believe that learning should extend far beyond the classroom. Our curriculum enrichment programme is designed to inspire curiosity, broaden horizons and provide memorable experiences that bring learning to life. Guided by our values of Believe, Explore, Achieve, we aim to give every child opportunities to discover new interests, develop confidence and build lasting memories.
We carefully plan enrichment experiences to complement and enhance our curriculum. Educational visits, visitors, performances, competitions and hands-on experiences help children make meaningful connections with their learning and deepen their understanding of the world around them. Whether exploring habitats at Wheatfen Nature Reserve, visiting the Sainsbury Centre, performing in music festivals or taking part in sporting competitions, pupils are encouraged to learn through real-life experiences.
Our enrichment offer supports children’s academic, creative, physical and personal development. Pupils take part in a wide range of opportunities including forest school experiences, author visits, drama performances, coding workshops, science events, eco projects and cultural celebrations. Through activities such as Bastille Day, careers talks and community partnerships, children gain an appreciation of the wider world and the diversity of people and experiences within it.
Sport and physical activity are an important part of school life. Children regularly participate in inter-school competitions, swimming, dance festivals, maypole performances and sporting events that encourage teamwork, resilience and healthy lifestyles. We believe that every child should have the opportunity to challenge themselves, experience success and develop a lifelong enjoyment of physical activity.
The arts play a central role in enriching our curriculum. Through music festivals, school productions, art competitions and visits to theatres and galleries, children are encouraged to express themselves creatively and develop confidence in performing and presenting. We value the role creativity plays in helping children become imaginative, reflective and confident learners.
Our enrichment curriculum also helps children develop character, independence and responsibility. Residential visits, leadership opportunities, Eco Committee, School Council and community events encourage pupils to work collaboratively, contribute positively to school life and understand the importance of caring for others and the environment.
We are proud of the rich variety of opportunities available to our pupils and believe these experiences help children to grow into confident, curious and compassionate young people. Through our curriculum enrichment offer, we encourage every child to believe in themselves, explore the world around them and achieve their very best.
